Updated over 3 weeks ago

Welcome to MIGs – Most Important Goals, one of the four core components of the Howwe methodology.

MIGs help organizations move from scattered ambition to sharp focus — making sure everyone knows what matters most and how to contribute to it.

🎥 Watch the video below to learn how MIGs create clarity and alignment, or keep reading for a deeper dive.

🎯 What Is a MIG?

A MIG — Most Important Goal — is a business-critical objective that the entire organization needs to focus on.

It’s not just another item on a long to-do list. It’s the one thing you must achieve to drive strategic success.

A MIG has a few special characteristics, it is a SMART goal:

Specific - Clearly define what you want to achieve. Avoid vague goals and be precise about the desired outcome.

Measurable - Establish how you will track your progress towards the goal. This may involve metrics, data, or other quantifiable indicators.

Achievable - Ensure the goal is realistic and attainable given your resources and capabilities.

Relevant - Align the goal with your overall priorities and values. Make sure it supports your larger objectives.

Time-Bound - Set a deadline for achieving the goal. This provides a sense of urgency and helps you stay on track.

✅ A MIG is not what you’d like to do. It’s what you absolutely need to deliver.

🧭 One Company with a clear direction

The company’s top MIGs is owned by the management team and reflects the most important goals for the entire business.

This goal sets the direction for everyone — and becomes the foundation for prioritization across the organization.

✅ Leadership sets the focus. Execution happens everywhere.

🔗 Alignment Through Supporting MIGs

Each team defines their own supporting MIGs — goals that directly contribute to the company’s top MIG.
This ensures alignment from top to bottom, so every action connects to the same north star.

This cascading structure turns strategy into shared execution and gives every team a clear sense of purpose.

✅ This is what we call alignment — and it’s a game-changer.

🧠 Why Focus Matters

Trying to achieve everything at once often leads to achieving nothing at all.
MIGs force the tough decisions: what do we focus on, and what do we deprioritize?

By choosing just a few Most Important Goals, you unlock better use of resources, stronger commitment, and faster results.

✅ Less, but better. Always.
